Equipment needed for surgery:
– Stereotaxic frame (ideally with digital coordinate readout)
– GRIN lenses in EtOH
– Fine forceps to hold GRIN lenses
– GRIN lens sterotaxic holder
– Light source with gooseneck
– Anaesthetic equipment (ideally isofluorane vaporiser, induction chamber, and nose cone line)
– Surgical tools (fine scissors, hemostats, fine forceps, scalpel)
– Surgical disposables (saline syringe, long handled Q tips, swabs/ gauze, Kim wipes)
– Betadine solution
– 70% EtOH for sterilisation
– Cortex buffer; aCSF; sterile saline
– H202 solution
– Dental drill and drill bits
– Dental cement
– Metabond/ UV curable fine dental cement or epoxy
– Optional: stereoscope, set screws, aspirator system, glue
Cortex Buffer Solution:
1L distilled water
7.89g NaCL
0.37g KCL
1.19g HEPES
0.26g CaCl2
0.204g MgCl2
Bubble with 95% oxygen, 5% carbon dioxide for 15 to 20 minutes
pH to 7.4
